The South Australian Immigrant Foundation (SAIF) is a not for profit organization that aims to make the process of assimilating into Australian society easier. Australia has one of the highest amounts of foreign-born residents in the world and immigrants account for 30% of the Australian population. Nonetheless, new immigrants still face a substantial number of roadblocks and challenges when attempting to integrate into Australian society. SAIF attempts to provide solutions to these challenges so that immigrants can create a stable life in Australia.
Soyal James is the founder of the South Australian Immigrant Foundation. Soyal immigrated to Australia from South India in 2006 alongside his family. He has resided in Australia for over seventeen years. Soyal founded this organisation because he witnessed the growing rate of migration from India, and acknowledged that there was a lack of support services to meet this growth. He is currently serving within the Australian Defence Force.
"My family and I have had to jump over a number of financial and cultural hurdles to assimilate into Australian society and be able to call ourselves Australian. Nevertheless, along this journey I have come to realise the value of opportunity, and I am perpetually grateful towards a country that has given me so much of that. Throughout my life, I have regularly encountered individuals and communities that have shown me how respectful, inclusive and welcoming the Australian culture is. My goal is to connect new immigrants to those support services that my family and I recieved."Â
